I tried two flavors of Funky Monkey snacks this week, and liked them. They are all-natural freeze-dried fruit pieces accented with additional natural flavors including cinnamon, acai and lime. I sampled the Bananamon (banana/cinnamon) and Purple Funk (banana/acai), with the banana/cinnamon variety as my favorite between the two. The other two flavors are Jivealime (pineapple and lime juice) and Carnaval Mix (apple, banana, pineapple, papaya and raisins).
Unlike some dried fruit snacks I’ve tried, Funky Monkey snacks are appropriately sweetened (no sugar added; no high fructose corn syrup) and have the right texture. For those with food allergies, Funky Monkey are also gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, and are all fat-free per 1 oz. serving, except for the Purple Funk, which has only one gram of fat. Total calories are in the 110-120 range per 1 oz. bag.
Funky Monkey snacks debuted last month, and are currently available in California and other western states. These would be a great addition to a kid’s lunch box or anyone looking for a healthier snack alternative.
